Dreda Say Mitchell (born 1965) is a British novelist, broadcaster, journalist and freelance education consultant. ==Early life== Born in London to Grenadian parents, Mitchell grew up on an estate in the East End and attended a Catholic girls' school.〔Christina Patterson, ("Dreda Say Mitchell: The star schoolgirl athlete who leapt over higher hurdles to succeed in crime fiction" ), ''The Independent'', 31 August 2007.〕 She graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies with a degree in African history, and completed an MA in Education at London Metropolitan University.
